The articles by Risman (2006) and by Featherstone (2007) provide evidence of how gender roles are socialized and how gender plays a role in the job market. The articles, as you know, are available in the ‘Articles’ section of the Blackboard.
Write two questions and/or comments on the articles. You will therefore in total write four comments/questions – two for each article.
The questions/comments should reflect that you have read the article. They can be something that you found interesting and/or unexpected. The key is to apply analytical thinking using the sociological concepts and theories that we have studied so far. Your analysis should reflect the application of sociological concept/s. An example of the application of sociological concept would be to show how gender is socially constructed even though it is an ascribed characteristic. You can apply other central concepts and theories such as the linkages between objective and subjective reality, theories of structural functionalism and conflict. You can apply one or more concepts or theories. You do not have to discuss several concepts or theories. The key is to discuss a concept or a theory appropriately. You will not score more points if you have mentioned multiple concepts or theories but not done so correctly.
I am not looking for personal anecdotal stories. Personal stories can provide helpful food for thought but cannot be included in professional write-ups.
With respect to the format, you can write the questions or comments listed as question number 1 or comment number 1. However, the question/comment should be a paragraph comprising 4-5 sentences and not just one short sentence. Please proof read the work before submitting. Also, remember to follow the ‘Good Writing Style Tips’ posted in the ‘Course Tools’ section of the Blackboard.
The assignment is due 2.00pm Wednesday November 11, 2020. You are required to submit the assignment using the ‘Safe Assign’ mode. No email or late submissions will be accepted. The instructions for submission via ‘Safe Assign’ are provided in the ‘Course Tools’ section of the Blackboard. Safe Assign helps screen for plagiarism. The ‘Note on Plagiarism’ posted in the ‘Course Tools’ section of the Blackboard should be helpful in understanding what constitutes plagiarism. Also, see ‘Academic misconduct and plagiarism policy’ in the Syllabus (page 7). In order for the assignment to be graded, please make sure that you upload the assignment in a downloadable format and that you have responded to the right assignment. The downloaded format is MS Word or pdf.
The assignment should meet the following requirements;
a) contain a paragraph of 4-5 senetences for each of the four questions/comments
b) appropriate and correct and elaborate application of a sociological concept/theory to each of the four comments/questions
c) follow ‘Good Writing Style Tips’
d) no evidence of plagiarism
Once again, please note that any evidence of plagiarism would disqualify the assignment from receiving a grade. It may impact the final course grade too.

A grade – wrote a paragraph of 4-5 sentences for each of the four questions/comments; appropriate and correct and elaborate explanation of the application of a sociological concept/theory in each of to the four questions/comments; followed ‘Good Writing Style Tips’ and no evidence of plagiarism
B grade – wrote a paragraph of 4-5 sentences for each of the four questions/comments; applied sociological concept/theory in all the questions/comments but appropriate and correct and elaborate application of a sociological concept/theory to only two of fewer comments/questions; followed ‘Good Writing Style Tips’ and no evidence of plagiarism
C grade –wrote a paragraph of 4-5 sentences for all the comments/questions but did not apply a sociological concept/theory in one of the four comments or to any of them or applied them inappropriately in all of them; or did not elaborate them; or wrote only one question/comment; or wrote one question/comment as a paragraph with 4-5 sentences and the other three questions/comments as one or two sentences; did not follow ‘Good Writing Style Tips’ and no evidence of plagiarism
D grade – did not follow two or more of the first three requirements and no evidence of plagiarism
F grade – did not follow two or more of the first three requirements or there is evidence of plagiarism
